We’re “Growing” Places!

Every Spring, without fail, there is a little Bleeding-Heart plant that pops up in my front landscaping. It starts out as a tiny green spiral and emerges into a beautiful little plant. I have no idea how it got there because I didn’t plant it.  One year it just appeared and faithfully returns every Spring. I am always fascinated by it’s perfectly formed, pink, heart-shaped blooms and I always look to it as a reminder that I am loved. But it’s hidden behind other plants and after a few weeks it stops blooming. However, next to it is a large hardy hibiscus plant that I intentionally planted there. It grows very large, and every July presents dinner plate-sized blooms for the rest of the summer and brings joy to all who see it.

Sometimes growth happens naturally and unexpectedly.  Life lessons, mistakes we’ve made, teachable moments, or just being forced to expand even if we may have resisted. But what if we chose to focus on learning and growing and we’re intentional about it?  What if we were determined that this is the year we are going to make learning a priority? How much more could we grow? How much could we share with others?  We tell ourselves that learning a new skill, becoming more self-aware, or taking that training can wait. Afterall, we are busy people who must set priorities. What if in this coming year we put learning first? We may see that other things in our lives just fall into place.

Maybe you want to learn to improve communication in relationships, work better within your team, or connect on a deeper level with your direct reports.  This can be done by increasing self-awareness through DISC, Driving Forces, or talent assessments and coaching. Maybe you need to find ways to identify and reduce stress at work for yourself or your team. Or maybe you want to learn how to have more empathy for others, increase your emotional intelligence to better handle situations, learn how to better manage projects,  or finally take those leadership courses you’ve been meaning to do. The possibilities in learning are endless!

And the more you learn, the happier you become.”
